Tsavo East National park

Tsavo East National Park is by far the biggest of Kenya’s parks. Tsavo East is nine times bigger than the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Most famous for its huge herds of dust-red elephants, more than 10,000 of them and the characteristically short-maned Tsavo lions. Tsavo East is 153km from Mombasa and about 2.5 – 3hrs drive to the Bachuma gate and this is the 1st entrance to the park. As well as teeming with wildlife, Tsavo East offers visitors some spectacular scenery. Some notable sights include: The Mudanda Rock is a 1.6 km inselberg of stratified rock that acts as a water catchment that supplies a natural dam below. It offers an excellent vantage point for the hundreds of elephants and other wildlife that come to drink during the dry season. On the Galana River, Lugard Falls is a series of white water rapids running between some remarkable rock formations. We can take on a full day game drive with a picnic lunch to see both the falls and also Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow. Its incredible 290 km length was formed by lava from Ol Doinyo Sabuk Mountain.
