Safari in Kenya: Tsavo East National park

Tsavo East National Park is among our top safari in Kenya and by far the biggest of Kenya’s parks. Tsavo East is nine times bigger than the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Most famous for its huge herds of dust-red elephants, more than 10,000 of them and the characteristically short-manned Tsavo lions. Tsavo East is 153km from Mombasa and about 2.5 – 3hrs drive to the Bachuma gate which is the 1st entrance to the park. You can never go wrong if you choose this package as part of our safari in Kenya. As well as teeming with wildlife, Tsavo East offers visitors some spectacular scenery. Some notable sights include: The Mudanda Rock which is a 1.6 km inselberg of stratified rock that acts as a water catchment that supplies a natural dam below. It offers an excellent vantage point for the hundreds of elephants and other wildlife that come to drink during the dry season.

Day 1:Pick up from Diani beach or Mombasa to Tsavo East

Pick up from hotel in Diani beach or Mombasa at 6.30am drive to Tsavo East. Pick time varies according to your hotel location. The drive to Tsavo East park takes about 2hrs 30minutes on the Mombasa Nairobi highway. Your driver/guide will take a 15minutes toilet stop just before entrance into Tsavo East. You can stretch your legs and use this chance to use the toilet before we go into the park. Normally we are at the Tsavo East park entrance by 10.30am. We will use the 1st entrance gate into Tsavo East park called Buchuma gate which is about 153km from Mombasa town. As you enter the Tsavo gate you are in for an exhilarating time with the super safari in Kenya Tsavo package. We will begin our game viewing drives as you head towards Satao Camp.

There so many animals to be spotted along the way but the ‘Red elephant’ is commonly sighted as soon as you enter the park. The Satao camp boasts 20 luxurious en-suite tents, each with private verandahs, nestled among the tamarind trees surrounding the camp’s very own watering hole. The tents are carefully positioned to allow uninterrupted views of the visiting wildlife whilst ensuring total privacy. There are 16 tents and 4 suites. The tents interiors are simply exquisite. Game drives through out the day, with breaks for lunch followed by a well-deserved afternoon rest as you wait for the temperatures to cool down before heading out for the afternoon game drives, in the cool of the afternoon a lot of animals can be seen moving around, your afternoon game viewing drives will last from16h00 – 18h00. Dinner and overnight at Satao camp.
